Sight-reading tips, tricks and activities

  • Have a staff guide handy when you’re new to reading music.

  • Read music fully before trying to play it.

  • Having trouble naming a note?

    • Identify a note nearby or anywhere in the staff that you can easily name.

    • Use the musical alphabet, saying it to yourself forwards (up) or backwards (down), to find the note name!
